MECHANICAL DESIGN / PROTOTYPING / PRODUCTION

Mechanical design.
From concept to production.

Mechanical design for reliable manufacturing and assembly.

AXOVEC develops enclosures, components and complete assemblies, then coordinates prototype and production work through specialist suppliers.

THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

From requirements
to finished parts.

Each stage provides the information needed to move forward. Supplier reviews and production preparation can progress alongside design to reduce avoidable rework.

  1. Define the requirements

Agree on the required functions, critical dimensions, interfaces, operating conditions, quantities and acceptance criteria. Identify the questions that need to be resolved first.

DELIVERABLEA clear brief and agreed scope
  2. Design & analyse

Develop parametric 3D CAD models, assemblies and component layouts. Use structural, thermal and tolerance analysis as needed to assess and refine the design.

    DELIVERABLEA reviewed digital design
  3. Review & prototype

Use supplier feedback to select materials, manufacturing processes and machining fixtures. Build prototypes to check fit, access and assembly, and to resolve critical design questions.

    DELIVERABLEManufacturing feedback and prototype findings
  4. Release for production

Approve the drawing revision, bill of materials, tolerances, finishes and inspection plan. Resolve outstanding issues before committing to production.

    DELIVERABLEApproved drawings and manufacturing data
  5. Manufacture & assemble

Coordinate machining, fabrication, finishing and assembly through selected suppliers. Track technical changes against the released design and agreed milestones.

DELIVERABLEParts and assemblies built to the agreed specification
  6. Inspect & hand over

Review dimensional and functional checks against the acceptance criteria. Resolve deviations and deliver the agreed parts, assemblies, drawings and manufacturing records.

DIGITAL ENGINEERING

Assess the design
before prototyping.

Use CAD models to compare design options and check interfaces. Focus analysis and prototype testing on the areas with the greatest technical risk.

  • Parametric CAD & assembliesComponent geometry, mounting points, fits and assembly sequence, with drawings aligned to the model.
  • Structural & thermal assessmentFinite element analysis (FEA) to assess loads, stiffness and heat transfer against the product requirements.
  • Tolerances & manufacturabilityCritical dimensions, reference datums, materials and manufacturing processes reviewed before release.
  • Operating conditions & serviceabilityShock and vibration, temperature, sealing, corrosion and maintainability considered where relevant.

THE MANUFACTURING ROUTE

Engineering by AXOVEC.
Production through suppliers.

We coordinate machining, welded structures, sheet metal and inspection through selected facilities. The process and supplier qualifications are matched to your part and production volume.

Precision machining

3-, 4- and 5-axis milling, CNC turning and electrical discharge machining. Processes are selected to suit the geometry, material and critical features.

Welded structures

Frames, skids and structural assemblies, with joint preparation, welding sequence, distortion control and subsequent machining planned together.

Sheet metal & enclosures

Cutting, bending and finishing for panels, brackets and equipment housings. Mounting points, cable routes and service access are considered from the start.

Inspection & verification

Dimensional measurements, assembly checks and specified weld or material inspections. Methods and acceptance limits are agreed for each order.

SUPPLIER CERTIFICATIONS & QUALIFICATIONS

A production route
matched to your requirements.

We select production facilities with qualifications appropriate to the required processes and manufacturing scope. Relevant qualifications may include the following.

Management systems

  • ISO 9001:2015
  • ISO 14001:2015
  • ISO 45001:2018

Quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management at selected production facilities.

Fusion welding

  • EN ISO 3834-2

Comprehensive welding quality requirements for the materials, processes and production scope covered by the facility's certificate.

Structural steel

  • EN 1090-1 / EN 1090-2
  • Up to EXC4

Factory production control for steel components and kits used in load-bearing building structures, within the certified execution class.

Pressure equipment

  • ASME U / U2

Authorised pressure-vessel manufacture through selected facilities, within their approved location and manufacturing scope.

Marine & offshore

  • DNV
  • Bureau Veritas

Welding-workshop approval and recognition covering specified marine fabrication and non-destructive testing activities.

Defence welding

  • DIN 2303
  • Q2 / BK1

Manufacturer qualification at a selected production facility for specified steel material groups and welding processes.

Supplier qualifications are checked for each project.

These credentials belong to individual production suppliers. During project qualification, we confirm the selected facility's certificate validity, approved materials and processes, and applicability to your order. Product acceptance criteria are agreed for each programme.

A COMPLETE TECHNICAL HANDOVER

What you receive.

We agree on the documentation to be delivered with the parts and assemblies.
